MARK YOUR CALENDARS - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2011
Once again, we are honored to have Newtown Veterinary Hospital as our Presenting Sponsor for The 9th Annual Greyhound Freedom Run 5K Race and 2 Mile Pledge Walk.
This annual event is a fall tradition at beautiful Tyler State Park in Newtown, PA. www.dcnr.state.pa.us If you've never participated, here are a few details that may whet your appetite.
5K Race
The 5k Race begins at the Boat House and moves on paved trails through the beautiful woods of Tyler State Park. The course is hilly and the scenery is wonderful! No dogs or strollers are allowed on the 5K course.
2 Mile Walk
And for those who prefer a slower pace, the 2 Mile Walk meanders along a dirt path for a mile at which point you and your canine companion can enjoy some refreshments before beginning the mile walk back. AND if you prefer a shorter walking distance of a mile, a half-mile turnaround marker will let you know when to reverse course.
Properly socialized dogs of any breed are invited to join their human companions on the walk. Dogs under 10 pounds are welcome but should be held at all times. Greyhounds are hunters and some greyhounds have difficulty distinguishing small "prey" size dogs from prey.
Post Race Activities
Following the race and walk, enjoy your choice of vegetarian or meat filled Chili and some corn bread while the results of the 5K are tabulated. Quarts of Chili will be available to take home for a modest donation - while supplies last. Visit our friends at Newtown Vet who always share important information on canine health. Listen for your number to see if you are one of the lucky participants to receive a raffle prize donated by local merchants.
Representatives from greyhound adoption groups will be joining us for the Greyhound Freedom Run and will be available to answer questions about greyhounds as companions and the adoption process.
We hope you will join us for the 10th Annual Greyhound Freedom Run on November 7th. You can pre-register or register on the day of the event.
